Apple iTunes last week launched higher priced and higher quality DRM-free files to some of their offerings. EMI is the first major label to experiment with selling unprotected MP3 files in hopes of luring more customers away from illegal file-sharing. Apple is updating all agreements with independent labels as well. While Steve Jobs strongly believes that DRM (copy protection) is a barrier to legal digital music sales, most major labels are in a wait-and-see phase.
